Welcome, 2022!
The end of 2021 has pointed a good part of our focus towards Bosnia, we managed to have a week long trip with seven volunteers to visit our friends in Mostar, Sarajevo and Srebrenica, paint yet another mural (this time in the center for disabled in Potočari, near Srebrenica), and on the way back visit a family whose house had gotten flooded during the floods in 2014 and who had received help from our volunteers towards making the house liveable again in the months after. Two other trips to Bosnia focused on helping the people on the move.
Dom Sv. Ana, a home for single mothers with kids in Rijeka, received our artistic attention and the children’s play room got a new look, as seven of us covered the walls with lively colours and cheerful nature motives.
We went to see one more time families around the earthquake stricken area of Petrinja and Glina, passing on to them some gifts from donors who wanted to help them. We also travelled to Karlovac and Vojnić with our friend Elena who prepared boxes with a generous assortment of food for the people that we visited. The whole month of December was dedicated to distribution of Christmas food packages to the families around Rijeka, spending time with them, and encouraging them in their challenges and difficulties they are facing.
Last year our usual volunteer winter camp was not possible due to the pandemic situation, but this year we were able to resume our tradition again, and welcome 2022 with a group of volunteers by paying a visit to the families around Karlovac and Vojnić, painting a long mural in Fortica (center for rehabilitation) near Rijeka, as well as having some impromptu meetings with unexpected visitors.
All in all we are very pleased with all that got accomplished, including the continued online and zoom communications and interactions to help further and coordinate our projects.
