May 2016
Again we had a very busy month. Murals in Italy and Croatia, Shows, Clown Therapy, humanitarian visitation not to speak of some of us taking part in the “utrabalaton” 220 km marathon pushing our dear friend Rolly. We also participated in the first Volunteer Festival in Rijeka.
During the Croatian week of Volunteering we had 3 projects running:
1. Clown Therapy in the Kantrida Children’s Hospital was a big success. Working together with SMART and Udruga Portic we had 16 university students who were eager to participate. We divided into 2 teams, one for Clown Therapy and the other with the “Teta pričalice”. We visited children in 4 odjeli, bringing them songs, hugs, smiles, magic tricks, a skit and balloons! The children loved it, and the parents who were there were particularly touched. One young woman whose baby had just undergone an operation began crying as we sang a song for her! We continued all together for 2 hours 40 minutes. Exhausting, but an inspiration for all! On Friday we joined a symposium on volunteering in the Health Studies university, and gave a presentation on Clown Therapy.
2. Colouring the World
Mlaka is one of the many kindergartens and schools in Rijeka who asked our organization for a mural, as a way to improve old walls often covered by graffiti.
We worked for 2 intense days, on May 17 and 18, with a team of 13 volunteers. It was particularly challenging as parts the wall were in very bad condition, but the final product was quite good and children, teachers and parents were overjoyed!
3. Aid to the Needy. Together with Rolly Bugnar, a young person from Veprinac we brought 100kg of food and visited 4 different disadvantaged families near Karlovac. Rolly, though himself confined to a wheelchair brought a message of hope and joy to everyone we met that day. His positiveness and smile brings a light and hope to all he comes in contact with!
