Tony Goes to Bosnia!
On our first visit to Bihac (BiH), November 8-10, 2010, we performed for about 1000 children and some adults during an autumn cultural festival, held an acting/clown therapy workshop for young people, and visited the first day center for disabled children in Bosanska Krupa. Both towns are slowly recovering from wounds inflicted on them by the war, and are trying to open up for tourism, international visits and cooperation. In only 3 days there, we made it on Bihac TV (became so famous that even the border guard on our way back was honored to be checking our passports), met directors, journalists, youth group leaders and simple people who invited us over and over to come again, to perform, paint murals, visit many more institutions, and teach their teenagers how to volunteer in a simple way. We enjoyed Bosnian hospitality, and were touched by the beauty of those simple souls who have suffered so much, yet are still positive, thankful for their simple blessings, willing to understand and help others with sincerity, without expecting anything in return, and able to look into the future with hope. There is just no adequate way to describe the feeling – you have to live through it to understand!
